321 stainless steel equivalents
321 stainless steel is nearest to EN 1.4541 (X6CrNiTi18-10), JIS SUS321 and China GB 06Cr18Ni11Ti. These are nearest equivalents, not identical grades: the governing standard or mill certificate decides.

About 321
Austenitic stainless, titanium stabilised. General characteristics; check the standard and the supplier for anything critical.
What it is
An austenitic stainless steel stabilised with titanium. The titanium ties up carbon, so the steel resists intergranular corrosion after long exposure to temperatures that would sensitise plain 304.
Typical uses
Exhaust manifolds and systems, expansion joints and bellows, aircraft exhaust parts and equipment in continuous elevated-temperature service.
Machining notes
Similar to 304: it work-hardens, so use sharp tools and a positive feed. Expect somewhat faster tool wear.

Stainless fasteners
Stainless bolts are graded to ISO 3506 (for example A2 and A4 austenitic), not to the ISO 898-1 classes in the bolt torque chart. Do not use those torque values for stainless fasteners; stainless threads also gall easily, so use an anti-seize and the fastener maker's figures.
Bolt torque chartTapping stainless
Stainless work-hardens and grips the tap. Aim for about 60–70 % thread: one size larger than the usual tap drill is common. The tap drill chart shows the percentage each drill leaves.
