What it is
A chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel, often called chromoly. It combines good strength and toughness with good weldability for an alloy steel.
Typical uses

Machining notes
Machines well in the normalised or annealed condition. Weld procedures for thin tube are well established; thick sections need preheat.
