430 stainless steel is nearest to EN 1.4016 (X6Cr17), JIS SUS430 and China GB 10Cr17. These are nearest equivalents, not identical grades: the governing standard or mill certificate decides.

| System | Designation |
|---|---|
| AISI / ASTM / SAE | 430 |

Family: Ferritic stainless

## What it is

A ferritic chromium stainless steel without nickel. It is magnetic, cannot be hardened by heat treatment, and resists mild corrosion and oxidation well. It is less ductile and less weldable than 304.

## Typical uses

Appliance panels, dishwasher and washing-machine linings, range hoods, automotive trim and indoor decorative parts.

## Machining notes

Easier than austenitic grades because it does not work-harden as much, though it can be gummy. Use sharp tools and coolant.

## Related grades

- 410 stainless steel (1.4006): Hardenable martensitic chromium grade
- 304 stainless steel (1.4301): Austenitic grade with better corrosion resistance

Equivalents are nearest matches, not identical grades. The governing standard or mill certificate decides.
